As we wrap up the semester, check out the negotiations page for the most up to date information on the progress we are making at the negotiation table. We will continue to work on negotiation materials over the summer. In the meantime, keep an eye out for an NFA-NSU bulletin in your non-NSU inbox in the coming week – it will include a look back at the year. We are also asking all members to fill out the short survey with your unisex T-shirt size so that we can order more swag. Here’s that link: Link to T-shirt size survey

On behalf of NFA-NSU and the English Department, I am excited to invite you to the Scholars Strategy Network’s Media-Engagement and Op-Ed Writing workshop at Nevada State University on Friday, November 7th from 10am to 2:30pm in CEB 232! This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about how you can navigate and engage with the media, and get the ball rolling on that op-ed you’ve been wanting to write! In this one-day workshop, we will focus on how to communicate effectively and confidently with journalists and legislators, and also learn how to draft and share one’s expertise via op eds. Guest speakers include Opinion Editor of The Nevada Independent, Andrew Kiraly, and the Scholars Strategy Network’s National Director of Policy, Andrew Pope.
Please see the attached flier for more information about the workshop and how to register. Breakfast and lunch will be included; this event is free to you! If you have any questions, please email leila.pazargadi@nevadastate.edu.

We’d like to invite you to a happy hour this Thursday (10/2, 6-8pm) with the Nevada Scholars Strategy Network! The Scholars Strategy Network (SSN) is a national membership organization made up of college- and university-based researchers interested in improving policy and strengthening democracy. Founded in 2011 by Theda Skocpol, Victor S. Thomas Professor of Government and Sociology at Harvard University, SSN has grown into a network of over 2,000 researchers in 47 states. The Nevada chapter is focused on supporting NSHE professors in their efforts to engage with local policy and legislation. Membership is free.
SSN provides professional development and training opportunities for educators that range from how to write Op-Eds to how to form relationships with media. We are planning to offer some of these opportunities to NFA members in the near future! We hope you can join us at the happy hour so we can connect with SSN folks, get to know their work, and learn more about the organization. Please see the attached flyer for more information. For any questions, please contact Leila Pazargadi.

The Board of Regents decided to table the decision on collective bargaining changes until the October special meeting. This change was due in no small part to all of those who showed up, spoke, or submitted written comment. Thank you to all who assisted in making our voice heard. Hopefully when the vote in October comes we can once again make our voices be heard.

September 8th, 2025: Call to Action
As many of you have likely heard by now, the Board of Regents is planning to make critical changes to Title 4 Chapter 4 of the Board Handbook. This chapter governs how we collectively bargain. The changes make it difficult bordering on impossible to negotiate a contract with NSHE. We are asking faculty to please give public comment at the upcoming Board of Regents meeting. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
