UNITED FOR STRONG FIRST CONTRACT
UNION FAQ
Full FAQ here
When do negotiations start?
After securing the union via the election this spring, NFA-NSU president Pete Martini submitted a letter to leadership informing them that we are prepared to begin negotiations on October 1st.
Who will represent us in contract negotiations?
Our negotiation team is the following:
- Lead Negotiator – Christine Beaudry
- Associate Negotiator – Laura Naumann
- Contract Writer – Emily Hoover
- Contract Writer – AndrĂ© Lindsey
- Researcher – Bryan Sigel
In addition to the negotiation team the Collective Bargaining Committee (A group of NSU faculty representing each department, and elected by their colleagues in those departments) is comprised of:
- Chair – Corey Fernandez
- Molly Appel
- David Kelsey
- Samantha Jewell
- David Cooper
- Jakob Mauer
- Lori Navarrete
- Vanessa Mari
- Christy Fleck
- Monike Richardson
- Pam Call
- Joy Patrick
- Michelle Oddi
- Maggie Harris
What other support does the negotiation team have?
Our negotiating team will be supported by the lawyer retained by the NFA, and experienced staff from the AFT-AAUP.
What can I do to help the negotiations?
While bargaining may seem daunting the process is relatively simple. Strong contracts are not won by good lawyers, they are won by engaged and active union members. Getting involved in NFA-NSU committees, following updates shared by the negotiating team, and participating in events and actions to support the work at the bargaining table is the best way to get the contract we deserve.
Do I need to be a member of NFA to influence the bargaining process?
The CB committee’s draft contract will be based on the result of bargaining surveys conducted among all members. In order to have a voice in setting the collective bargaining priorities, vote on whether to ratify our union contract before it can go into effect, or elect our union officers, you will need to be a member of NFA-NSU’s chapter.

MEMBERSHIP MATTERS
- Only members can vote on union leadership
- Only members can vote to ratify a new contract
- Only members can participate in choosing contract and organizing priorities
I VOTED UNION YES
FOR…
“My number one priority for the union would be to maintain the culture, Nevada State is a great place to work and I could not be offered a dollar figure in exchange for the culture that we have now.“
“The ability to negotiate fair salaries, reasonable workloads, and job security.”
“A stronger voice in shaping educational policy”
“Job protection for lecturers, cost of living adjustment, and pay equity between departments”
“Faculty safety on campus needs to be a contractual priority, with clear policies in place to handle threats, harassment, and emergencies. Contracts should guarantee protections, including non-retaliation for reporting concerns, institutional support, and access to legal and mental health resources. We also need stronger security measures to make sure faculty feel safe in their work environment.”
